Update - Floating Shelves

The floating shelves are complete!  I guess they are not "floating" because they have brackets, but we will just call them that.
Dad sanded and stained 100 year old barn wood from the Lintvedt farm.  Mom and I purchased the brackets.  Chad measured and drilled into the tile backsplash (yikes!) and wall.  Plem helped with the measuring.  The kids did their part and ran crazy through the house while I chased and yelled at them to sit down and not touch ANYTHING.

It was truly a family project.

Take a look:

  1. Don't you love the shelves? We do! Love that the old barn boards have such meaning to us. Still have some dishes and pretty things to set out--and a few more boxes to empty--but the house is getting more "Home" everyday. And Aubrey is right--this was a real family project--everyone had a hand in it somewhere. I even helped Steve while he trimmed them on the table saw...

    2. And Aubrey had many good ideas for this project--OK--she had most of them--I did put in a few of my own too!! But she came up with the barn wood and decorated 90% of the shelves--and I didn't move a thing today! Dad and I couldn't have done all we have done without all the help Aubrey and Chad gave us. Dad told Aubrey to stop coming up with ideas--as his wallet is now empty!! Next project--getting Tante's yellow Naugahyde unholstered chair recovered for the craft room.

  2. Very nice. Looks like a lot of new things sitting out. I don't recognize much of it. Good job to all.

    1. Most of it is GW "Treasures", the little white bowl is from Kathy's rummage sale, and the red tin with EGGS written on it is from Adrienne. I "admired it several times" when we helped them move to their new home and she gave it to us for our new home! Thank you again, Adrienne! Aren't we the luckiest parents?! All the kids have helped us in so many ways with our move. Christopher has traveled twice to help with the physical moves, we have stayed with Aubrey and Chad for most of this time with two trips to Adrienne's to stay with them and get to enjoy Tommy and Riley, and of course all their help with decor. Thank you guys--You Are The Best!!! LYLAL!!!!
